SEO Foundations: Where to begin?
Posted February 5th, 2009Everyone likes being first, you know, like the first one NOT to lose your hair in your family, the first to show up in organic searches on Google, Yahoo and MSN. But how do you get there?
Search engine optimization is something some businesses overlook or don’t concern themselves with when they first launch a pretty, shiny, glittery new website. But eventually the question arises, “Why don’t I show up Google/Yahoo/MSN?” So where do your SEO efforts start?
Just like building a house, you have to start with the foundation, in this case for your website; it’s the code. There are two ways developers can construct your site, with tables or CSS. CSS-based layouts and the proper implementation of CSS styles are the root of web standards. Proper, web standard compliant websites lead to faster and easier indexing in search engine directories.
Making sure your site is built to the current web standards from the beginning will help set up a strong foundation for you to build the rest of your SEO efforts off of. It will give search engines an easy roadmap to your content and keywords. After all, what good is a new website if no one can see it shine?
